For our upcoming section of “Dear, The Reader” in issue 006, we asked Barry to send an image of something that’s dear to him. We ended up with 23 images and decided, rather than have them go to waste, let’s make a zine
“This trash-strewn, eucalyptus grove between a sound wall and a
freeway, accessible only through a hole cut through a wire fence is
very dear to me. It’s both peaceful and chaotic. There are makeshift
tarps and tents, soaked magazines, mattresses abandoned. Half fall-
en and burned eucalyptus trees and limbs with robust ivy growing
everywhere. I find both freedom and inspiration here. My studio is
nearby, but so much problem-solving and ideas begin here at the
soundwall. A space unnoticed, a no man’s land, a place dear to me.”
